I think Sam kicked ass on this:

thanks! :)
i feel like this is just the start of an intro. what needs to be added, and i'll take on unless someone else steps up, is some more concrete examples, as well as some discussion (with links) into the different areas/ways people can get involved.

so, reassigning to me. if you feel comfortable writing up some examples (and i'd love that...), or otherwise adding your own flair, please feel free to reassign to yourself, or at least note that you'll be doing so here.

Seems there's some confusion over whether what role the desire for privacy plays in motivating this platform:

Quieter but worth watching:

I'm not totally clear on this myself -- is privacy a large concern, or is it more an issue of autonomy? As I understand it, privacy is only a concern for organizing some specific forms of protest, but is not the main concern, as most networks can eventually be infiltrated

yeah...privacy is complicated in this context.
i'm reassigning back over to Scott in hopes that he can get back on this, as i just don't have time right now.

I've tossed a second elevator pitch into the google doc:
The Federated General Assembly (FGA) is an open source, distributed social platform built around groups activating on the ground for social change. Information is broadcast between people, groups, and organizations in contexts that bring new meaning, value, and trust to relationships.
written to be a more agnostic of Occupy. I'm not advocating towing this line. A context just popped up where it seemed more appropriate to use this tone.
I replaced "occupation" with "organization" and I think it sheds a different light on the ubiquity of the platform we're building.
